Professional clamp meters CTL-100 and CRT-1200

We proudly present our two professional clamp meters: CTL-100 and CRT-1200. The main advantage of our clamp multimeter CTL-1000 is its ability to measure large currents and voltages while the circuit is operating without any risk. The CRT-1200 clamp can test grounding in hard-to-reach spaces, including indoor or fully paved areas where auxiliary test rods cannot be used. The meter can identify the resistance with no need to disconnect and reconnect the grounding installation.

Both comply with EN61010-1, EN61010-2-033, EN61326, CAT Ⅲ600 V / CAT IV 1000 V.


New training center, we invest in safety

Electricity is the engine of progress in every industry and the most widely used form of energy in the world today. However, without the technical and safety knowledge required to work with electricity, there is a very high risk of injury or even death.

As a manufacturer of electrical equipment, we at Sofamel understand better than anyone else the dangers of working with electricity and we ensure our employees, representatives and customers receive the appropriate technical training.

For this reason, we have recently prepared a training center in our facilities equipped with two real medium voltage towers with all the components, where we can teach the correct installation of PAT equipment and the use of both personal and contact voltage detectors. 

Training, together with other preventive measures, is essential in order to avoid accidents related to electric shocks.

It is now possible to store renewable energy


If we are to combat the current climate crisis, it is essential that we change the way we supply our energy, leaving behind fossil fuels and opting for greener, cleaner and less polluting energy forms. In our previous post we discussed the discovery of a way to generate energy using seaweed and jellyfish. Today we will tell you about a new project developed by engineers Tommi Eronen and Markku Ylönen: a sand battery that is able to store clean energy for months. 

One of the main problems with renewable energies is that weather conditions tend to be seasonal and it is difficult to maintain supply all year round. This device, developed by the co-founders of Polar Night Energy, allows wind and solar energy to be stored for months, and therefore supply an urban area. 


How do sand batteries work?

Solar panels and wind turbines generate energy, 30% of which is directly used to generate electricity; the remaining 70% is stored in an underground infrastructure with over 100 tonnes of sand. Via heating elements, the renewable energy is used to heat the sand to a temperature of 500°C, which can be maintained for months. 

When energy prices spike or demand increases, the heat from the sand battery is transferred to the heating system that supplies the city of Kankaanpää (Finland). The pilot scheme has been installed in Kankaanpää and has achieved very good results 



Why is sand used?

  1. Sand a very inexpensive material that can reduce the costs of generating clean energy. Moreover, it is very abundant
  2. It allows heat to be stored for months with an efficiency of 90%.   
  3. The heat extracted from the sand batteries remains clean

The main advantage of this new storage system is that it allows 100% of the energy generated by renewable sources to be harnessed. As with all pilot projects that prove effective, research into large-scale application is underway. 


Clamps for photovoltaic structures

The importance of a good grounding in photovoltaic structures

Ensuring an installation has a good earthing connection protects people and electronic devices against leakage currents. All the metal parts of the supporting structure of photovoltaic installations must be earthed, even those that are separated by non-conductive materials and not in direct contact. 

It is important that the protective earthing conductor is not screwed directly to the panel frame, but fixed by means of an auxiliary terminal/clamp. This allows each module to be removed (in case of fault, maintenance, etc.) without interrupting the earthing connection of the rest of the installation.


The clamps that guarantee optimal grounding in photovoltaic installations

The clamps, which are made of aluminium and stainless steel, are ideal for correctly connecting the anodised aluminium frames of solar panels to the earthing system. 
The SCF-GC clamp prevents galvanic and environmental corrosion and can be adjusted to the frame of the module.
  • By using an M8 bolt fitted in the hole in the frame specifically intended for earthing (usually indicated by the earthing symbol).

  • By fixing it to the rail on the frame, either as a way to attach the earthing cable or to connect to the earthing system.
